Evaporative cooling systems and cooling towers can release legionella-containing water droplets and aerosols which may lead to severe pulmonary infections when inhaled, sometimes with fatal consequences. Using Aquadron Anolyte for cooling water treatment stops the proliferation of pathogens and keeps the cooling water microbiologically pure.

Our disinfectant, INNOWATECH Anolyte®, a powerful pH neutral hypochlorous solution, is produced on site by membrane cell electrolysis. Anolyte is listed in the appendix of the EC - Biocide guideline as disinfectant for food products and drinking water.

Anolyte acts quickly and reliably against yeasts, bacteria and viruses, ensuring a hygenic process area. Due to its pH neutrality it has a high compatibility to materials (no corrosion effects).

Any water system given the right environmental conditions could be a source for legionella bacteria proliferation. There will be an elevated legionella risk in your water system if:

  • water is stored or re-circulated as part of your system;
  • water temperature in all or some part of the system reaches between 20 – 45°C;
  • there are deposits/nutrients that support bacterial growth, such as rust, sludge, scale and organic matter;
  • water droplets and aerosols are produced and there is the potential for dispersal

it is therefore likely that your employees, contractors, visitors etc. could be exposed to contaminated water droplets.

 REDUCED HEAT TRANSFER AND INCREASED ENERGY CONSUMPTION

Due to their structure, biofilms may also affect the performance of heat exchangers and can promote microbial induced corrosion. The effect on heat transfer can be four times stronger than mineral deposits of the same thickness (scaling). At the same time, the energy required for the transport of cooling and product water increases significantly, because deposits in cooling circuits reduce the pipe diameter. Thus, a higher pump power is required to transport the same amount of cooling water.

As cooling and chiller systems cause systemic aerosols which can be dispersed over a wide area, it is vitally important that the risk of Legionella contamination is eliminated through effective management.

A potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by Legionella Bacteria. Infection is caused by breathing in droplets of water which are contaminated by the bacteria.

Aquadron technology also helps operators of chiller plant and cooling towers avert or even prevent dangerous microbiological contaminants delivering metered dosing of Anolyte. In order to create an audit trail, permanent monitoring with automatic measurement can be carried out.

Automated measurement may also be used to control replenishment in buffer tanks, when the water is standing for a long time and little fresh water is fed (for example in the colder months). Anolyte, even at very low concentrations.
